Interim IRRS HC Secure reporting tool

CIHI is developing a new home care reporting tool for the Integrated interRAI Reporting System (IRRS) as we modernize our reporting system. To cover the transition period, we have developed the interim IRRS Home Care (IRRS HC) Secure Reporting tool, which will be used temporarily and will be enhanced over time.

The interim IRRS HC Secure Reporting tool aggregates data from home care organizations that submit to IRRS HC at CIHI. Authorized users have access to regional-level data to explore comparative and actionable information on home care clients to support quality improvement, front-line care planning and accountability at the management and policy-making levels.

What does it offer?

This reporting tool gives access to timely and accurate data that is refreshed quarterly.

  • Client counts: Explore the volume of clients receiving home care at various points in the process (e.g., admission, discharge).
  • Client characteristics: Examine the breakdown of home care clients by their characteristics, such as age, gender, health instability and access to an informal caregiver.
  • Resource utilization: Use the 7 Resource Utilization Groups III Home Care (RUG-III-HC) clinical categories, which group clients based on their characteristics, to guide decisions on program planning and resource allocation.
  • Outcome scales: Use 14 standardized outcome scales to understand client outcomes in various areas, such as depression, cognitive performance and activities of daily living (ADLs), and compare outcomes with those of peers.

Purpose for the report:

  • To support front-line care planning and quality improvement at the point of care.
  • To support planning, quality improvement, funding and accountability at the management and policy-making levels.
