SNOMED CT CA to classifications map refset and value set, and opportunities for implementation and pilot testing

The CIHI SNOMED CT Canadian Edition (CA) to ICD-10-CA reference set and the Pan-Canadian Health Concern Value Set (PHCVS) have a target release date of early Q2. Once released, these map sets will be found on CIHI’s health information software vendors web page.

The SNOMED CT CA to ICD-10-CA refset provides a semi-automated link from structured clinical information recorded in an electronic health record (EHR) by a clinician using SNOMED CT to ICD-10-CA; this supports data reporting requirements and improves efficiency in coding. This refset also includes a Vendor Implementation Guide and a Coder Education Manual to support implementation and use.

The PHCVS provides a solution for automated data collection in primary care electronic medical record (EMR) systems that use SNOMED CT at the point of care. This value set maps a comprehensive list of SNOMED CT CA terms to ICD-10-CA for data collection, and to ICD-9 to support physician billing code assignment. This value set also includes a Vendor Implementation Guide to support implementation and use.

Emergency Department Intervention Value Set

Version 2.1 of the Emergency Department Intervention Value Set (EDVS) has been released and can be found in CIHI’s eStore. This version aligns with the April 21, 2023, release of SNOMED CT CA. Please note that not all SNOMED CT terms include a French translation because not all of SNOMED CT CA has been translated to date.
